Foodservice in Europe reaches a milestone
Europeans now spending €300 billion on eating out.
The Europe-wide spend on out of home food and drink has topped the €300 billion mark for the first time to reach €301 billion, according to Horizons latest research.
The five largest countries in Europe account for 77% of that figure, led by Germany with out of home food and drink sales of €64 billion. Sales in the other four big countries are France €54 billion, UK €44 billion, Italy €37 billion and Spain €34 billion.
Growth is coming from central and East European countries which together only account for 5%of the total European market. But growing spending on eating out, fuelled by disposable income growth and increasing leisure time in most countries, means that their combined share is set to increase significantly over the next few years.
